Streptococcus salivarius and Oral Health

The ProDentim panel lists S. salivarius at 20 mg but does not show a strain designation. That makes strain-specific research useful background—not a direct match.

What the supplied label discloses

Streptococcus salivarius is listed separately from the proprietary probiotic blend at 20 mg per serving. The supplied image does not provide a strain code or CFU amount for this entry.

Why K12 studies require a caveat

Some human oral-health research has evaluated S. salivarius K12, including studies related to halitosis and oral microbial outcomes. K12 is a defined strain. Because the current ProDentim label does not say “K12,” those papers should not be presented as though they tested the organism in ProDentim.

What halitosis studies do and do not establish

Bad breath can arise from tongue coating, periodontal disease, dry mouth, diet, smoking, medications and non-oral causes. A strain-specific probiotic result under a study protocol does not mean every case of persistent halitosis should be self-treated with a supplement.

Persistent bad breath deserves attention to oral hygiene and, when ongoing or unexplained, professional assessment.

How we use this evidence

We use S. salivarius research to explain why this species is scientifically interesting. We do not use it to claim that the current ProDentim tablet contains K12 or to guarantee breath outcomes.
